Since 2016 I have been producing a programme of family activities supported by Blue Bermondsey BID to attract people to The Blue Market and promote local traders and community cohesion. Activities included performances, art workshops, circus skills workshops and live music.
The first pilot series of event took place weekly May – July 2016. A new series was commission in November – December 2021 to re-activate the Market following closures for COVID-19 and ‘Made in Bermondsey’ regeneration works. In 2022 a follow-up series was commissioned as part of the Unheard Voices Hidden Histories project funded by Historic England which aimed to amplify awareness of the diverse heritage of the area through seasonal events mixing international cultural influences – I worked with Blue Bermondey BID and the new market management team at Big Local Works to co-ordinated a busy on-going schedule of events including Greening The Blue, St. Patricks Day, St George Around the World, Castellers of London, Biscuit Day, Okinawa Day, Unity in the Community and UMAT Let’s Make Music and Dance Galas. A further 2023 season of event August – December 2023 was funded by Charterhouse including Bicycle Day, Open City Weekend, Pumpkin Carnving, The Blue Winter Fair and Christmas Wreathmaking. A 2023 program is underway funded by Blue Bermondsey with many events returning as regular annual fixtures.
