This year’s carnival took place on Sunday 1st September 2019 and was attended by crowds of local people and their pets. Grove Park Carnival and Chinbrook Dog Show has become a much anticipated event in one of the most deprived parts of the borough, we created a weekend of festivities for local residents. This year’s theme was ‘Country and Western’ and featured a talent contest, a parade – complete with Carnival Queen, arts workshops for children, a fairground, a country & western hoedown with line dancing, performing artists, the local community choir as well as the ever popular Chinbrook Dog Show, promoting not just a love of dogs, but also responsible ownership and handling. This all occurs alongside a market giving local businesses, crafts people and community organisations a chance to engage with the community.
In addition to the carnival, we also ran a series of workshops in local venues in the lead up to the event, inviting local residents to come together and help make banners and a cowboy hat float for the carnival parade, a hand painted western themed backdrop for the stage and a wooden ‘saloon’ fontage for the bar.
